We did the Whale Shark and Seal snorkel trip. It was great! Saw dolphins and got to jump in to swim with a whale shark three times. Was a little... read more cold and choppy on the way to the seals, but was definitely worth it. The reef that surrounds the seal colony was beautiful and the seals swimming and playing did not disappoint! Lunch on that beautiful beach was a great way to end the trip.
February 16, 2020My family and I had a great experience with Tuna Tuna Tours. Juan Carlos was great to deal with booking the tour. His response to email and text was very... read more fast and he is very professional. We had to change our tour date because my daughter was very sick the morning we were scheduled. Juan Carlos was very understanding and rescheduled our tour. Since the Whale sharks were gone we swam with seals and got to see lot of tropical fish. Stephanie was very knowledgeable and she made the tour more enjoyable. She went into the water and guided us when we snorkeled. I felt very safe with Stephanie there with us. Lorenzo, our captain made sure we got to see a whale, sea turtles and dolphins. The ceviche lunch was very delicious and they made the day fun and relaxing.
June 3, 2021I just took my family on a tour with Juan Carlos and it was an absolute blast. Juan Carlos lived in the United States for a long time before... read more moving to LaPaz and speaks perfect english and is a really personable and charismatic guide. He takes great precautions for COVID-19 safety, including masks, hand sanitizer and also removing shoes before getting into the boat.
We started out on the impressive La Paz dock where there are huge yatchs that my kids (5 and 8) loved seeing up close. We drove out past the malecon and spotted a pod of dolphins (8ish) and I have never been as close to dolphins as I got then they were beautiful! We then boated past a colony of sea lions, blue footed boobies and giant crabs. The kids loved hearing Juan Carlos explain what these creatures were and facts about them and their habitats.
Our destination was a secluded cove where the sand was like silk and when we swam to some of the rockier areas, we could see fish and starfish of all types and colors up close. We stayed here for three hours swimming and having fun until we boated back to the dock under a beautiful la paz sunset.
I would greatly recommend this experience to all my friends and really felt safe and got my monies worth of value in terms of family experience.

Must do! Tuna tuna tours was great - our boat driver and the guide were both so nice and knowledgeable. Note: you don't need to arrive 15 minutes prior as... read more the guides show up right at the tour start time and there isn't really a lot of prep. At the address they send is the marina, and you will go to a little stand of sorts that says tour departures (something like that) where you will wait with other people who are embarking on similar tours with other companies or people in your group. It's a bit unclear but just ask someone and they may be able to show you.
The way the tour works: you basically jump in and the guide (super nice and helpful) shows you where to look then you start swimming with the shark. My partner and I alternated who swam in the front and back next to the shark because it is big you can't see it all at once from in the water! So you see different things depending on where you are. The shark moves fast enough that you can't really adjust these positions after you start swimming - if you try, you'll likely fall behind then that round of swimming is over. It seems like they let you swim as long as you can (either you fall behind, or quit from exhaustion - it's a lot harder than you might think!). We repeated this three times, alternating with another group.
Biggest tips:
-ask your guide to tell you how many times you can go in the water! We went in 3 times and on the third, I stopped early to conserve my energy for the next swim (but I didn't know that was the last already!). Of course this might be limited depending on the whale shark itself, or the time limit restriction for how long a boat can be with a shark.
-ask for the shampoo to help you defog your goggles. They should have it on the boat but might not offer it unless you speak up or appear to be struggling. You want to be able to see the thing!
